About the Artist
You may have heard it said, “Find a job doing what you love to do, and you will never work a day in your life.” I am blessed to be one of the people who have found that job. I have been doing what I love for the past 25 years.
I actually started out in the business world. Banking, real estate, and owner of a retail shop were my first ventures. I have a BS in Mathematics, which seems rather interesting considering I eventually landed in the field of fine art. My father was a business owner and a strong influence in my life, but my mother’s influence apparently won out.
My art career began with portraiture. My mother Deloris Boyle is a retired portrait artist, and has been my teacher and mentor throughout my years of painting. Although I have drawn and painted all of my life, she was the one who encouraged me at age 30 to take it beyond the realm of “hobby”. I have since completed over 400 commissioned portraits.
After many years of concentrating almost exclusively on portraits, I realized I needed to broaden my expression of art, and began painting the beautiful herons, egrets and other shore birds that live in the salt marsh low country I call home. From there I progressed to landscapes, figurative paintings and most recently Christian spiritual paintings. All the while, I have stayed dedicated to my first love – painting people.
I live in Pawleys Island, SC. I am married to Bud Harper, and we have four grown children and 4 fabulous grandchildren.
I am grateful to God for the gift of art and for the opportunity to express myself through painting. My prayer is that my paintings will bring joy to those who view them, and will bring glory to my Lord. Please enjoy my website and let me know your thoughts if you have a chance.
